KESC suffers Rs10.6bn loss

KARACHI: The KESC reported a pre-tax loss of Rs10.604 billion during the last three months ending on March 31 as compared to Rs9.905bn in the corresponding period last year, according to KESC’s 3rd quarterly accounts.

Total revenue stood at Rs41.219bn compared to Rs36.717bn in the corresponding period last year.

This included Rs41.065bn from sale of energy compared to Rs36.567bn in the corresponding period last year.

Revenue from rental of meters and equipment was Rs153,303.

Out of total Rs56.547bn, purchase of electricity cost Rs29,880,444,000 as compared to 23,339,357,000 in the corresponding period ending on March 31, 2008.

Consumption of fuel and oil accounted for Rs26.666bn. Tariff adjustment on account of increase in fuel prices and cost of power purchase was Rs17.862bn as compared to Rs12.988bn in the corresponding period ending on March 31, 2008.

Expenses incurred on generation, transmission and distribution Rs7.520bn as against Rs6,901bn in the corresponding period last year.

Consumer’s services and administrative expenses accounted for Rs4.241bn.

The KESC has signed an agreement with the ADB for capital expenditure of $150.000 million on power generation, transmission and network improvement project.
